The refractory industry has an important place in the word of industries and the consumption of the refractories has become a great sign of the technical and scientific progress. In Iraq and because of the increase in importing the refractories this industry was created. So the state company for refractories was established in 1994 to produce the firebricks in different shapes and other refractories material (mortar, castable… etc). The raw material of this industry is available locally 100%. The production of the company used for lining the furnace and rotary kilns of the cement factories, fertilizer phosphate factories, oil refineries, electric power stations and the private sector workshops. In 2002 the company was able to cover about 50% from the local demand of the medium alumina refractories. Also in the same year the company was produced for the first time about 100000 pieces of the roof tiles from locally raw material. Also there are many researches and experiments to produce base bricks (dolomite) from local raw material, which have awide locally demand. Beside that it was produce many samples from silica bricks (anti-acid bricks). And the company planned to installed new product to produce magnisite bricks.
